What Equality for All Means to Me

by Aya Jonson

At school, students in my class start math work at the same time, but they end up finishing at different times. That's because some kids work hard and some don't. Also, some kids have more math talent than others. In this example, I define "equality" as starting out the same, but ending up where your talent and hard work lead you.
In Dr. King's day, the white people didn't let black kids start in the good schools the white kids used. It caused the black kids to be left behind. Today, if everyone starts in good schools together, then they will all have a chance to end up where talent and hard work leads them. This means "equality for all" to me.
