When we went ot Beaver Creek (Vail) for Chris Botti's concert, I took a day off and Nancy reserved hotel but coming back way, Don said "This is close. We didn't have to stay hotel." I was thinking that easy, "well, some where on the mountain.."Then, checked map and "wait. Passing Beaver Creek and go down another road, it's almost double distance to Beaver Creek. That means 2X3hrs..Hmmmm"
|
A day before the concert, I called Mamie to make sure she's going but she turned me down. "I forgot that I had an appointment." That messed up!! I could've asked other people at work but I don't have their home phoe #. My choice went back to Don. |

I didn't request off for work ahead so, I have to
show up to work. Since I live in east side of town, work is on the way
to the mountain, I decided dress to work to go to concert. One of top
I got at JC Penny, one weekend, I kind remember ad was saying "door
buster" 8am to 1pm bt I didn't get up early and got to the store
like noon and I didn't find sign about it. I was looking around and
tried some then, I noticed a lady was changing price tags. It's after
1pm ans she said "if you take it to the register, it might ring
up door buster price." I grabed something turqoise in it and tried
and got on the line. I found out the colors totally mach to the shoes
I got at Target years back.

Don didn't want to leave work early. He wanted to
finsh what he got. Mine was slow and got off early.
|
Don told me to go home and wait. I had rain coart
since rain was focasted but I grabed jacket for me and Don. People at
work, people at bus stop commented my outfit so, it should be good...
On
the way to the mountain, rich people build houses like this. |
We didn't get out town till 4:30pm. I expected 5hrs drive so, are we gonna make to the concert?
Well, we are on the way, it's free tickets anyway. |
Mountains are always fun to look at.

Passing private jet airport, Yeah, I smelt Rich. We got to the jazz fest, went in parking garage, found spot betwwn Cadilac and BMW.or was that Melsades...one of those. At the gate, "No food, drink and camera." I had big bag of rain coat but a tent was built and audience didn't have to worry about rain.
|
|
That white tent was ugly.It ruins pretty mountain scene. It might protect ladies' pretty dresses It was cold!! Down town in June - 80-90 degrees but up on the mountains probably 40s. I wanted to get a drink but Don said "no! We are going to get to the seats." We got there but he didn't want to go back out. Manhattan Transfer show already started but lots of people were hunging around out side of tent. |

Manhattan Transfer...over 20years ago, I went to their show in Japan. Men and women group sing like instrments...That was impression back then. This time, they looked like people walking in down town during lulnch time, I wouldn't recogninze if I see them some where not on the satage. They said when they started, they didn't have money to hire the band so, they did acapela. A half full of audience but they performed well. Have they been active as groop? The most impressive part was, one of the lady made sound like muted trumpet and did the song. The second later, I guess other audience liked that, too. made noise and it was loud, it bivelated in the tent. |
|
Intermission (between MT and Anita Baker), Don offered to buy drink so, we went out of the tent. We got on the drink line but it's not moving. I was mumbling about it and the lady front of me turned around and started talking to us. "I hope we can make it back before next show start." " The guy is old and can't move fast." "Someone ordered a whole bunch of drinks." so on. Another lady befind us started talking something, too. Why they were so friendly to me? Did they like my outfit? Ladie were dressed up and fun to look around. Some of them looked Sous Western. I wonder if they were from out of state and tried to match what to wear to where they were going to be. If I would go to Hawaii, I probably wear tropical look dress or so, I guess I get.( I just saw the movie, "Bucket List", that's example.) Finally, we got to order and they were offering tequila with some special name. I got it and it was good. We'd better get back before someone start asking like trip by jet. |

When we got back to the seat, I started talking to the people next to us. They were tickets winner like me so, the seating made sence. They didn't know new KHIH was back. They didn't like the long way to get to Aspen, either. Anita Baker started. She had black short dress with black lacehhunging around. She was telling it's pretty by herself, it was pretty. She wasn't skinny but not big. She had microphone always at least 6" away. Ususally, the singer has mic almost touch to the mouth. She must have so much volume. I said she reminde me of Fantasia. Don said "isn't it the other way around? " The band dressed formal like boy at hotel. Black tax, white shirt. Back up singer ladies - balck dress. I remember Rod Stewart show 1st half rock old songs and casual look. 2nd half was old American song books and band were white tax, even Jeff Golub. All songs were her original and sounded familier, hit songs like you can sing along.( today, I turned XMradio on and Chris Botti's "Good Morning Hatache" was on, Don asked if it's Anita Baker. No. He looked at info and found out the vocal was Jill Scott. He tends to think who ever plays cover songs are original musicians. so, yeah, she sang it. Not all her original. good cover.) She sounded like singing even she was talking, I should say woman version of Luther. She was saying about Love...the part I remember in her talking was " I love you..so, will you take trash out?" I laughed.." I love you...so, make me dinner..." Love is not like that...love is..her music....I don't pay attention to the lyrics...OK....I think her songs sound love. At middle of her show, people started leaving. People kept leaving and only a little bit of people left right by the satge. She kept saying "thank you! " but sounded like "don't go! " After the last song we stood up and headed to the exit. No one asked encore. MC was saying "Anita Baker, ladies and gentlemen." We crapped the hand and made noise "Hooh, hoo." still kept walking towards to the exit. When she named band members, one familier name. Ron Jenkins on base. Oh, I was too far to see his face but that's the name bsisit came to Stapleton Denver for Guitar's & Saxes in 2004. He's in Jeff Golub's myspace top friend. It's got to him... |

I saw the flash went off a couple of times but the security went up right away. I was scared and I didn't even get my camera out and try to take pix. I did with my phone but it didn't come out good. Since ticket sale wasn't so good, they should've loosen up a little. I understand if it's sold out show then, mean and picky. With this economy, going up to Aspen is so much. If she had show like Paramout downtown, she would be appreciated more. I'd rather spend $ to the ticket than gass I guess she's so diva, she can perform like only Aspen.. Later on, I noticed donars list in brochure, $100,000 plus 4 couples, $25,000 - $99,999 8 couples, $10.000 - $24.999 uncountable by eyes. Not 100 dollers. 100 "thousands" dolles. There must be the people who have something called "disposable income." I got flash back of that private jet airport. |
