August 21, a week before DNC, I decided to bring flower to the 2 guys in KUVO. When smooth jazz radio station went off, I stated listening KUVO since I cannot live without music, jazz. I requested Jeff Golub but the most of DJs are straight head jazz people and refused to play Jeff even I brought CDs to play. |
One of 2 guys play Jeff Golub is Victor. I heard he
played some smooth jazzy song. I called studio and told him I left Jeff
Golub CDs, he played some songs fron Dangerous Curves. I wanted to meet
him earlier but he didn't come to City park jazz, Winter park jazz fest.
Finally, I got meet him. My Jeff Golub buddy, Wendy said she used to
go out with Victor. Small world.
|
JJ's show is 6-9am on Saturdays.Since he plays Jeff, I wanted to meet him. JJ was at City park jazz. Bring flower on Friday, he should get it next day. He got it and talking about it,"pretty orange flowers. Broncos lost last night.." |
|
I went to city park jazz to meet Susan. I won Anita Baker and Manhuttan Tansfer show tickets from her . So, to say thank you plus asking to play Jeff but he is too smooth for her she said. |
Victor got his flower but JJ comes in only on Saturdays, Victor sugested to leave JJ's flower in the studio. So, I got go into studio. Rodney was on air. I talked to him on the phone before. On Lee Morgan's birthday, I was looking at BlueNote albums, he was on the other side of the hone knowing all the songs, musicians in those album by heart. I told him Victor and JJ get flower because they play Jeff Golub. |

I went back to KUVO to bring more CDs to Victor. He
listened to all of them in a couple of days and played Chris and Jill
Scott's "Good Morning Hatache" I broght croton to him and
found out Susan talkes care of all the green plants in KUVO. One little
one for her. I like when Susan talks about watering her yard, the concert
she went, what she sees in the sky, all the interviews.
|
Outside of KUVO building. It's in histric 5points
area and PBS ch12 is downstar, too.
|
Arturo is music director. There are piles of CDs in
his office. He had interview with Kevin Mahogany and talking about Pee
Wee Crayton. I said I was married with his grandson and send webpage
to him. He said he was at Long beach Blues fest plus he knew the studio
in Pasadena.

I said "you know you play artists' voice, ..hi,
I'm so and so...in the other satation, they play that artists' song
following that but over here you just play totally different artist's
song." Then, Rodney look for Sophy Milman, the one just put "hi,
I'm.." and he played her. Right after the song, he got phoe call
and lady asked who it was. Not bad sugestion, ha?
|
When Rodney played one song, I was thinking "this
is sort of dull song.." then, he got phone call from a guy "
hey man, I usually enjoy your show but this one is...too much same as
original." I was nodding head. Rodney said " I see what you
mean. You don't want to play sound track of 'Sound of Music' for 'My
Favorite Things' "
|
Advantage of beeing in studio is when he plays song ones gets my attention, I just ask what it was. No calling studio, no looking in playlist in website...Rodney was kind enough to tell me what it was. His show is expression of "I love doing this!!" I said "Me, too." Our Lives are good. "I can't believe I get paid by doing this." |

I said I like Chris Botti. Rodney recognized him by
movie "Caught" he has both VHS and sound track CD. I said
I only have VHS and he said he would bring it for me. He satrted talking
about when he had interview with Maria Conchita Alonso. He thought he
would meet sexy actress but she showed up dressing like grandma. Dahh.
|
When Rodney played George Duke's Bragilian kind of
song, I asked if he knows Tanya Maria, yeah, Azymuth, yeah, Sadao Watanabe,
YMO...so, when I looked at song list of a CD, he offered his reading
glass. I put them on and I could see better. I hope he did that from
music we listened to in the past not by my look. He broght his Ryuich
Sakamot CD. Nice. He recomended movie "Babel". I just got
seen it. Thanks for all those Japanese thing.

Hunging around in studio and Pete, the one after Rodney's show came in. I said hi and left. He was saying, "yesterday was Sony Rollins birthday. I'm gonna celebrate today any way. If you have request, call me in studio." When I came home I requested "Night in Tunigia" from BlueNote Villege Vangard. He played extact song I asked. How exciting. |

I met Wendy, too. She has a angel voice. Singing song in different language sounds more exotic, too. I still remember she played "Pork 'n' beans" on Memorial Day. |
I met Mamacat. I asked her to play Pee Wee Crayton. She said she had CD so she would play next time. I like her little talking. Wheather, DNC....she sounds she's sitting in the same city we are in. |
Next week, I called her and asked if she's going to
play Pee Wee. She said "ah, I knew I forgot something." and
sounded like she was writing down. She played him following week.

Ed is morning DJ. I cann't meet him because his show is on same time I work. He digs so namy artists. He covers lots of birthday artists. He list credits of the songs and very educational. He takes reasonable request like "Mike LeDonne's 5live track 2" Thanks. I'm still thinking to get that CD but I haven't heard track 6and 7yet. (Susan played tack 4) |
